Senior Data & Process Architecture SME

Location: Arlington, VA

Technomics is a growing employee-owned, decision analytics company that specializes in cost and economic analysis to facilitate better decisions faster. We enable a wide range of clients across the Federal government, from senior level policy makers to program managers, to choose smartly, buy effectively and operate efficiently. We deliver practical, credible and defensible results offering actionable insights by applying data-driven and analytics-based approaches in combination with multidisciplinary talent, subject matter experts, and tangible and repeatable assets in the form of databases, models, approaches and techniques.

Our employee-owners pride themselves on their ability to apply deep analytical rigor and innovative thought that assist clients in understanding and solving a myriad of challenging resource planning and management problems.

Architecture should have the knowledge, skills, abilities and initiative to deliver timely, practical and innovative solutions to our clients as part of high-performing project teams typically composed of a mix of less and more experienced analysts who will look to you for technical acumen and mentoring.

Overview
The Senior Data & Process Architecture SME will serve as a lead architect and subject matter expert supporting a U.S. Government client in the assessment, re-design, and enablement of a complex, mission-critical business process. This role focuses on evaluating and selecting an integrated software ecosystem spanning data analytics, data engineering/management, data access and permissions, and large-scale business process management (BPM) workflows.

The individual will work with senior stakeholders to assess existing tools (e.g., Oracle) and evaluate new platform options, defining a target-state architecture and actionable implementation roadmap. This role requires strong technical breadth, architectural judgment, and the ability to translate business and mission needs into software and platform decisions in a regulated government environment.

Responsibilities

Assessment & Architecture

  • Support assessment of current-state business processes, data flows, analytics capabilities, and supporting software platforms
  • Evaluate strengths, gaps, and redundancies across existing tools (e.g., analytics platforms, BPM tools, financial systems, data platforms)
  • Define target-state architecture options spanning data ingestion, storage, analytics, permissions, workflow orchestration, and reporting
  • Develop platform comparison criteria and conduct structured evaluations of candidate solutions (COTS and PaaS)

Software & Platform Selection

  • Assess tools such as Databricks, Oracle, Foundry, Appian, OneStream, and alternative platforms for fit against mission, scale, and governance needs
  • Evaluate integration touchpoints between analytics platforms, workflow/BPM tools, and authoritative data sources
  • Identify data governance, access control, and security implications of candidate architectures
  • Support cost, licensing, and deployment model analysis (on-prem, cloud, hybrid, FedRAMP considerations)

Communication & Documentation

  • Prepare clear, executive-ready deliverables including architecture diagrams, trade studies, decision memos, and implementation roadmaps
  • Brief and defend recommendations with senior client stakeholders in both formal and informal settings
  • Document assumptions, constraints, risks, and dependencies associated with recommended solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years experience spanning data architecture, analytics platforms, enterprise systems, or business process enablement
  • Demonstrated experience working across multiple phases of the data lifecycle, including ingestion, transformation, analytics, and consumption
  • Experience evaluating or architecting solutions involving data platforms, workflow/BPM tools, and enterprise applications
  • Working knowledge of modern analytics platforms (e.g., Databricks or equivalent) and BPM/workflow systems (e.g., Appian or similar)
  • Strong understanding of data governance, access controls, and permissions in enterprise or government environments
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical and senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to operate independently and deliver high-quality work products with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting U.S. Government clients in a consulting or program environment
  • Experience conducting software/platform trade studies or technology selection assessments
  • Familiarity with FedRAMP, IL levels, or government cloud deployment considerations
  • Experience integrating analytics platforms with BPM/workflow tools
  • Background in financial systems, planning platforms, or enterprise performance management tools (e.g., OneStream or similar)
  • Experience working in environments with complex data access and role-based permissions
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., cloud architecture, data architecture, enterprise architecture), preferred but not required
